Newborn Care & Breastfeeding Basics
Register for this workshop individually for $225, or save with our $450 Childbirth Weekend Bundle, which also includes Childbirth Prep on Saturday, December 12, from 2–5pm with Gayle Lemke.
Welcoming a newborn is a magical milestone, but figuring out hands-on care in the moment can feel overwhelming. Learning the fundamentals of infant care and feeding before your baby arrives can ease anxiety and help you feel more confident once your little one is finally in your arms.
Join Adriane Stare, experienced postpartum doula and parent of two from Mostpartum NYC, for an engaging, hands-on workshop designed to demystify newborn care and breastfeeding and help you feel prepared for those early weeks.
Newborn Care
What we'll cover together:
Essential daily baby care, including swaddling, diapering, infant hygiene, bath time, and umbilical cord care
Infant sleep biology, safe sleep guidelines, and how to set up your sleep environment
Calming and soothing strategies, understanding normal infant crying, and helping settle your newborn
Normal infant behavior and red flags that warrant a call to your pediatrician
Building confidence in the practical aspects of caring for your baby during those first weeks
You'll receive take-home handouts to reinforce your learning, and, if time allows, have the opportunity to practice care techniques using Adriane's weighted baby dolls.
Breastfeeding Basics
Feeding a baby with your body may be simple, but that doesn't mean it's easy. Understanding the fundamentals of early lactation and newborn behavior before your baby arrives can help you feel less anxious and more prepared when it's time to breastfeed in real life.
What we'll cover together:
How human milk production works and the role of your hormones
How to advocate for an undisturbed “Golden Hour” after birth and the benefits of immediate, frequent skin-to-skin contact
What to expect from your body and your baby during days 0–5 after birth
The benefits of hand expressing milk and collecting your own colostrum
Positioning tips for comfort and an effective latch
How to stay centered and supported as you and your baby learn to feed together
You'll have the opportunity to practice breastfeeding positions with Adriane's weighted baby doll and receive take-home handouts to support your learning at home.
